Spanish wines tipped for success this Christmas

As Christmas is peak period for wine sales we start the count down months in advance, working with our partner wineries to ensure we have sufficient stocks ready for the festive season. These are a few Spanish wines that we’ve been getting ready for restaurant and retail customers to order this winter. Get shipping before we sell out!

Sparkling wines

Christmas sees a huge spike in exports of Cava and other sparkling wines. Formats with gift packaging such as De Pró Cava are particularly sought-after in the gifting period, where as bubbles in general are essential for New Year’s Eve. Prosecco style wines, which are tank-fermented to retain freshness and varietal character, have been particularly successful in recent years, and products such as our recently repackaged Amalia Gran Vas offer Prosecco style at a fraction of the price.

New style from Bierzo

DO Bierzo is one of Spain’s regions to watch – exports from the northern wine region grew 86% from 2010 to 2015 – as consumers wake up to the bright, fruit-forward style of Mencia and its bracing altitude-enhanced freshness. Our recent launch, Puerto del Monte 2017, already has four major international awards under its belt, so cases are flying out of the warehouse. Served by the glass in London and New York fashionable wine bars, we expect it to be a hit at this year’s Christmas parties and beyond.

Classic regions

Although there will always be those who are ready to try something new, for many, yuletide is a time for tradition and serving wines that will pair with the myriad flavours of a Christmas banquet. Rioja is a trusted region that is a favourite guest at the festive table, and the award-winning Finca Mónica Crianza blends classic spicy oak aromas with a soft, fruit-filled palate to create a wine that all adults will love.
