A Master in the Long Wines team

The names of fourteen new Masters of Wine were announced this September and we are proud and delighted that Fernando Mora MW, Long Wines’ winemaker, was among them!   This represents a huge achievement for Fernando who is now the only Spanish Master of Wine resident on the Iberian Peninsular, and only the second Spaniard of all time to pass the examination.

There are just 369 Masters of Wine in the world with the qualification recognized as the pinnacle of achievement in the wine industry. The notoriously difficult Masters of Wine Examination consists of three stages, including theory and practical exams, and culminates in the submission of a final research paper.

Garnacha-loving Fernando runs Bodegas Frontonio in Valdejalón and has just launched wines from his new Campo de Borja winery Cuevas de Arom, as well as working as winemaker and sales representative for Long Wines in the UK and USA markets. He wrote his research paper on a subject close to his heart: Proposals for creating a revised wine quality classification in DO Campo de Borja.

Other achievements for Fernando this year include no less than 10 wines ranked with 90 Parker Points or more by Luis Gutierrez for Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, including 93 Parker Points for Frontonio Garnacha Blanca 2015 and Frontonio Supersónico and 92 Points for Microcósmico Macabeo 2015, Telescópico Cariñena 2015 and Frontonio Garnacha 2014. The ever-popular Botijo Rojo Garnacha 2015 also achieved an impressive 90 points.
