New Sparkling wine added to Melea Organic range

There’s renewed buzz around Melea Organic with another new addition to the range. After the recent incorporation of an Orange wine, a premium organic Sparkling wine has now joined Long Wines’ leading organic brand.

Brand Manager Freddie and Managing Director William Long spent a long time visiting wineries and tasting possible candidates for the important position as the first sparkling wine in the Melea portfolio.  The selected wine was finally chosen for its sustainable credentials, fresh and appealing style, and exceptional value for money.

The expertise of the winery located in the Penedès region in making sparkling wine is evident. It is crafted using traditional Cava grapes Xarel-lo, Parellada and Macabeo, farmed organically, but unlike Cava it is made using the Charmat method, undergoing its second fermentation inside stainless-steel vats. The yeasts are kept in constant suspension in the wine allowing an exchange to take place which imparts a little extra body and creaminess. However, the focus is on fruit and freshness with notes of apple, pear and white flowers at the fore.

The packaging, designed by leading design studio, Pablo Guerrero, features a label with a watercolour bee on the label.  The champagne closure has been purposely left bare to avoid using unnecessary materials as Freddie explains:

“We decided to use a champagne closure but not a capsule, not only to allow the natural cork to be seen, but also to cut down on unnecessary packaging waste. Capsules are often made from PVC or polylaminate, which can’t be recycled, and even metal capsules require energy to produce and recycle them – and in many cases they end up as landfill.   Capsules can also contaminate glass recycling if not fully removed from the bottle. So we decided that scrapping the capsule was the most sustainable choice and therefore the right one for Melea Organic Sparkling.”
