New excellent and gold-medal winning vintages of Finca Mónica

New vintages are becoming available of Finca Mónica Rioja, our growing brand from an estate winery with vineyards on the slopes of the Yerga Mountain in the Rioja Oriental area of Rioja.

Finca Mónica Tempranillo 2019

The 2019 vintage has been given the Rioja Regulatory Council’s top rating of “Excellent” with low vine vigour leading to smaller berries, reduced yields and more concentrated vines. Although it has only just been released, this wine has already won a Gold Medal in the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2020.

Finca Mónica Crianza 2017

A “Very Good” vintage, 2017 saw quantities impacted by frost in April and drought in the summer months. It was the earliest vintage on record with harvest commencing in the eastern part of Rioja on the 10th August. Intense colour and good structure with higher than average alcohol levels, although this Crianza – which was aged for 12 months in American oak barrels and over a year in bottle – comes in at a balanced 13.8%. It has also been awarded a Gold Medal in the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2020.

Finca Mónica Reserva 2016

After completing 18 months ageing in French and American oak barrels, and over two years in the bottle, the 2016 vintage of Finca Mónica Reserva is now ready to be released. Also classified as “Very Good”, 2016 saw stable conditions throughout the growing cycle with a hot, dry summer and no major outbreaks of pests or diseases, allowing the harvest to take place slowly over two months. With slightly lower alcohol levels than the previous vintage, the wines are balanced with intense aromatics and ripe, smooth tannins.
