Storytelling and wine in Denmark
On William’s frequent travels he often gets to meet interesting people and one such recent encounter was with Chanet Deleuren, Storytelling Manager for the Winefamly wine club in Denmark. Yes, that really is her job title…
Chanet is a trained journalist, specializing in wine and food. Also now a sommelier and educated to WSET Level 3, she works with Winefamly, hosting tastings and recommending wines to club members. Because, Winefamly is not your normal wine retailer – it’s a wine club and, on payment of a monthly membership fee, its associates get access to wines at exceptional prices and dinners, tastings and events like the one that William attended, hosted by the charming Chanet.
Our Finca Mónica Crianza from Rioja DOCa is among the most popular wines listed by the club, with an average rating by members of 87/100 and comments including:
“Very nice classic Rioja with hints of oak; would buy again.”
“For the money, a wonderful wine.”
“Insanely delicious wine.”
“Surprisingly spicy on the nose though with classic Tempranillo flavours in the glass. Lovely wine!”
As for storytelling, the wine lends itself perfectly to this, as it comes from a winery owned and managed by six families of grape growers and was named after Mónica Sánchez, the widow of a local grower, who continues to maintain her husband’s immaculate patch of vineyard at the foot of the Yerga Mountain near Alfaro, where the Mediterranean climate is cooled by altitude to give very balanced grapes.
