Success for Calamar Rueda in major international wine competitions
Calamar Verdejo 2016 from the DO Rueda has had a good start to the year, winning two Silver Medals in two of the UK’s most prestigious wine competitions – the International Wine Challenge and Decanter World Wine Awards 2017.
Produced for Long Wines in the heart of the Rueda region, Calamar is a classic, premium expression of the Verdejo grape variety: aromatic, herbaceous, fresh and elegant. It’s made from a high percentage of grapes from very old vines grown in stony soil, where the hot days and cool nights produce perfect acidity levels. A consistent winner in international competitions, it is a perfect match, for seafood, hence its name Calamar (Spanish for squid) and ideal chilled as an aperitif in the summer.
The new Castillo del Rey Crianza 2013 was also awarded a Bronze Medal in the International Wine Challenge this year.
