Melea Organic donates over €10k to bee charities
Melea Organic – our range of organic and vegan-certified Spanish wines – recently hit an important milestone, having donated over over €10k to bee-related charities as part of its 1% for the Planet Membership.
Melea was the first Spanish wine brand to become a member of 1% for the Planet, committing to donate the equivalent of 1% of gross sales to directly support environmental non-profits. The 1% for the Planet logo features on the back labels of Melea Organic alongside Vegan and Organic certification.
Donations from the wine brand have gone to charities that support biodiversity and promote the use of organic farming, avoiding the use of agrochemicals that harm bees and other pollinators: namely the Bumblebee Conservation Trust in the UK and The Bee Conservancy in the USA.
The Bee Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting bees, safeguarding the environment, and securing food justice through education, research, habitat creation, and advocacy.
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust makes efforts to monitor and conserve bumblebees, which have been in decline over the past century. Bumblebees are great pollinators, and therefore play a key role in producing much of the food that we eat.
Since launching in late 2019, Melea Organic is now available in several key markets: the USA, via the Well-Oiled Wine Co; the UK, via B-Corp certified North South Wines and Ireland, via Ampersand Wines.
