Long Wines launches Botijo Blanco
Fernando Mora, winemaker from Frontonio – The Garage Winery in I.G.P. Valdejalón has launched a white “sister” wine to Botijo Rojo.
The wine, made in very small quantities (15,000 bottles) from 85% Garnacha Blanca and 15% Macabeo from old, un-irrigated vines, spends 3 months on its lees in concrete tanks with no oak influence. It is intensely aromatic with notes of white flowers, lime and grapefruit and is fruit forward on the palate with a long finish. It has been launched to meet a growing demand from markets such as Holland and Belgium for low-volume premium white wines from Spain.
With labels designed by Marta Lojo featuring beautifully decorated botijos, the traditional terracotta vessel used by vine-growers to keep drinking water cool whilst out in the vines, Botijo Blanco is now available for export from Long Wines, along with the new 2014 vintage of Botijo Rojo, made from 100% Garnacha Tinta, and the 2012 oaked Garnacha Roble.
