Altos de Aranda Roble Launched from Excellent Vintage

A new wine has been launched to join the Altos de Aranda range from DO Ribera del Duero and it’s from the “excellent” 2020 vintage. Altos de Aranda Roble 2020 is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes from vineyards around Aranda de Duero, located at an average altitude of 800 metres. It was aged for three months in oak barrels to create a wine that is well structured with intense flavours of ripe red berries.

A panel of independent experts including sommeliers from Michelin-starred restaurants, wine writers, and buyers for some of Spain’s leading distributors and retailers recently classified the 2020 vintage of the DO Ribera del Duero to be excellent, and we certainly can confirm that to be true.

Enrique Pascal, the President of the Ribera del Duero Regulatory Council described the 2020 harvest as “long and very hard, with various rainy spells that meant that the harvest had to be stopped on several occasions. However, fresh winds and the expertise of the vine growers helped ensure the health of the grapes was good and the production of 123 million kilos of grapes was of high quality.” The wines of the vintage are described as being “fresh, light, rounded and very expressive, with intense fruit notes on the nose and a well-balanced palate with sweet tannins and a moderate level of alcohol.”

The winemaker at our partner winery in Aranda de Duero that produces the Altos de Aranda range commented at the time of the 2020 harvest: “the cycle saw average temperatures run between 1 and 3ºC higher than historic averages, which led to early bud-break, with flowering also running around a week earlier than usual, and there was little or no spring frost. Rainfall was higher than average, particularly during April. In terms of the wines, the data received from the Regulatory Council reveals pH values in line with the averages, but higher malic acid levels than in 2019, helping make more stable wines that are suitable for long ageing. The sugar levels were in line with the previous vintage and colour indexes were higher. These factors indicate that this will be an excellent vintage.”
