Quality of Frontonio range recognised by Peñín, Spain’s top wine guide

The Guía Peñin – widely regarded as Spain’s most prestigious wine guide – has just released its 2017 results, which recognize the excellence of Long Wines’ winemaker Fernando Mora’s Bodegas Frontonio wine range with point scores of 90+.

The highest score of 93 points went to the top wine in the range – Alas de Frontonio 2014 – a garnacha produced without sulphites, of which only 325 bottles were made. It was described as showing aromas of “ripe fruits, mountain herbs and sweet spices”, with a “delicious” palate, showing good acidity and varietal characteristics.

The white wine Microcósmico Macabeo 2014 was awarded 92 points, along with Frontonio “Selección Especial” Garnacha 2013. The Telescópico white 2014 – a blend of macabeo, Garnacha Blanca and viognier – and the red Telescópico Garnacha 2013 were both awarded 91 points. 90 points went to Microcósmico tinto 2013 – another testimony to the excellence of Garnacha wines from the little-known IGP Valdejalón region.

Alas de Frontonio has been selected by the Guía Peñín for presentation at the XVII Tasting of the Top Wines from Spain, in Madrid on the 27th October 2016.
