Fernando Mora passes MW theory and practical exams!

Long Wines’ resident winemaker Fernando Mora took a short break from work at the beginning of June to take his second year Master of Wine exams and we are delighted to hear that he has passed!

Fernando is one of only five Spanish candidates among the 320 international students currently studying for the notoriously difficult qualification to become a Master of Wine, of which there are just 341 in the world.

Having passed the stage one assessment, Fernando took the Theory and Practical closed book Master of Wine Examinations this June. Details of the questions that he had to answer and the wines that were tasted blind have been published on Jancis Robinson’s website here.

Fernando describes this year as his “most intense ever”, and “the first time in my life that I have fully understood the saying ‘it’s the journey not the destination”. He went on to say, “I have done my best and whether I’ve passed or not, I’m proud to have met such great people on the way. The real MW process is fighting against yourself and finding your weaknesses. Maybe I will need 5 years to finish the course or maybe I will never get the qualification, no problem, I can only say to everyone who has supported me: THANK YOU!”

Fernando now has to complete the Research Paper to be able to use the MW letters after his name.   Long Wines wishes Fernando every success in his continuing studies.
