Fortaleza del Rey – Contemporary Spain with Classic Credentials
One of our most successful off-trade brands, Fortaleza del Rey has amassed sales of almost half a million bottles across Europe. So when a retail customer asked us to look at updating the label design, we contracted Marta Lojo, one of Spain’s leading label designers.
The upgraded label features a Spanish castle with contemporary figures in the foreground, taking a traditional wine trope and bringing it into the 21st century.
The wines themselves are made in a modern, fruit-forward style but from classic Spanish varietals – Tempranillo and Airén, but with a splash of Sauvignon Blanc in the white for freshness.
Both the white and the red were awarded gold medals in the 2021 Gilbert & Gaillard awards. They are made at one of the biggest and most professional wineries in Cataluña by female winemaker, Araceli Martinez, who has over fifteen years of international winemaking experience, including vintages in Australia and Chile.
