Rosé added to the Melea range of organic Spanish wines
A pale salmon pink rosé, made from 100% Organic Tempranillo grapes is the latest wine to be added to the Melea Organic range.
It joins a red Tempranillo and white Verdejo-Sauvignon Blanc blend in our exclusive range of organic, vegan-certified and wild yeast fermented wines from Cuenca in central Spain.
The rosé is made from organic Tempranillo grapes grown on dry-farmed vines planted in 1999 at an altitude of 660m. After crushing, the grapes undergo a short maceration of 4-5 hours at 18ºC to extract some colour. The must was then bled off and fermented without the skins using native yeasts at a controlled temperature of less than 24ºC. It was fined with vegan-friendly pea protein.
A brilliant salmon pink, with fresh aromas of strawberries and redcurrant, it has a rich, smooth and creamy texture with a clean finish.
Like the other wines in the range, the label features an original bee motif created by Barbara Long, a mixed-media artist, from recycled threads. Rather than being printed on paper, the labels are made from calcium carbonate dust, which is a by-product of the quarrying process. As well as reducing waste, this uses a lot less water than making paper.
Melea was the first Spanish wine brand to become a member of 1% for the Planet – a global movement inspiring businesses and individuals to support environmental solutions.
Melea Organic also has a new Instagram page to share information on the brand and its values of sustainability, vegan and vegetarianism with its audience.
Since launching in late 2019, Melea Organic has already gained listings with importers in several key markets, including Ampersand Wines in Ireland and the Well-Oiled Wine Company in the USA.
